Where is Woodmont Day Camp?

Woodmont is located at 420 Phillips Hill Road in New City, New York. We are ideally located 1/4 of a mile from exit 11 on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, just 25 minutes from Manhattan, 20 minutes from Westchester and 15 minutes from Northern New Jersey.

Who works at Woodmont?

Woodmont counselors are intelligent, dedicated, fun, energetic, creative and dependable people. Our staff is a wonderful mixture of educators, graduate and college students, high school graduates and those who have completed their junior year of high school. There are limited positions available for those who have completed their sophomore year of high school.

Where do most counselors come from?

Woodmont counselors live within a short driving distance from camp. They live in Rockland County, Northern New Jersey, Westchester County, Bergen County, and the 5 Boroughs of New York City.

Where do most campers come from?

Most campers come to camp via camp transportation and live locally in Rockland County, Northern New Jersey, Westchester County and New York City.

What is it like working at Woodmont?

As a part of the Woodmont team, counselors are sure to enjoy the challenges, triumphs, opportunities, responsibilities, laughs, growth, rewards and fun that make up each day at Woodmont Day Camp!

When does the camp season begin and when does it end?

The first day of camp is Thursday, June 27, 2024 and the last day is Thursday, August 22, 2024. All staff must be available for our entire eight-week camp season. Our staff day begins at 8:15AM and completes at 4:30PM. In addition, each staff person will attend a three-day orientation designed to prepare them for the summer ahead.

What is a typical day like at Woodmont?

While each day at Woodmont is a unique experience, morning meetings begin at 8:15AM. Camper arrival is at approximately 9:00AM. Activities run from 9:30AM to 3:45PM. The day concludes with ice cream and departure. Each day’s activities include a balance of our four Key Program Areas: Athletics, Creative and Performing Arts, Adventure & Swim.

What are the hours of each work day?

Staff are expected to be at camp by 8:15AM and may leave once all campers have been picked up (approximately 4:30PM).

Will I ever be expected to stay late?

Counselors with groups that travel off camp grounds may have a trip that returns after our regular dismissal and will be expected to stay late for their campers to be picked up. 

Do I get time off during the day?

As a member of the Woodmont team, you are a key element in making the summer run smoothly. In order to make sure that you are able to run full steam ahead throughout the day, you are entitled to one 30-minute break each day.

Is there a staff uniform?

There is a staff uniform. You must wear your camp issued t-shirt daily. Staff must dress ready to move in shorts and sneakers and must bring a bathing suit.

How will working at Woodmont help me in the future?

At Woodmont, you will receive a sense of accomplishment working as a part of a team and being a role model for children. You will develop leadership skills as you learn to work cooperatively with other staff in guiding the growth of children throughout the summer. As a result of working at Woodmont you will develop group management skills essential for success in any managerial position and critical in the field of education.

How are salaries determined?

The Woodmont pay scale takes several factors into account: age, years in school, position, and experience.

What is the policy on tipping?

Counselors are permitted to receive tips. However, employees may not solicit gratuities in any form from parents or guardians of campers or from campers themselves.
